With Jon Jones sitting in the front row at Santa Ana Star Center, Jan Blachowicz couldn’t have sent a stronger message to the light heavyweight champ.

Saturday’s UFC Rio Rancho headliner saw Blachowicz get a second crack at Corey Anderson after he lost a lopsided decision to Anderson at UFC 191 back in September 2015, and the Polish veteran capitalized on the opportunity with an emphatic first-round knockout victory.

“The whole world, they was wrong about me,” Blachowicz said post-fight. “I proved that I’m one of the best in the world. I thank Corey for the rematch, and I proved that I’m the next contender for the title shot. Let’s talk about my next opponent, Jon Jones.”

Following Blachowicz’s win, Jones stood and riled up the New Mexico crowd while also acknowledging Blachowicz, who said that Jones promised him a title shot with a win.

“You promised me that. ... You are next,” Blachowicz said

The fight was a short one and nothing like the first encounter between Blachowicz and Anderson. While Anderson dominated with his wrestling last time, he had no chance to establish any sort of offense on Saturday before Blachowicz caught him with a powerful right hand that immediately put him on the canvas. A follow-up hammer punch sealed the deal and the official time of the stoppage was 3:08 into round one.

Blachowicz (26-8) has now won three straight after losing to Thiago Santos last February, and seven of his last eight. On the other side, Anderson sees his title shot hopes dashed—at least for the near future—as he sees a four-fight win streak halted.
