Brok Weaver got his first octagon win at UFC Rio Rancho, but not the way he expected.

The debuting lightweight was knocked out by a blatantly illegal knee thrown by opponent Rodrigo Vargas, leading the referee to disqualify Vargas at the 4:02 mark of the opening frame.

Vargas had dominated the action on the canvas, preventing Weaver from getting up after a few spirited exchanges on the feet. Weaver was seated on the canvas as he took the knee, and it was instantly clear he’d lost conscious. The referee subsequently stepped in to stop the action, and Weaver received medical attention.

Weaver was then declared the winner, and he reportedly welcomed a rematch in a short conversation with Vargas after the decision.

A veteran of Dana White’s Contender Series, Weaver has now won eight straight MMA bouts, while Combate veteran Vargas has dropped back-to-back fights in the UFC.
