Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Juliana Velasquez is official for the Bellator flyweight championship after both competitors made weight Wednesday morning for Bellator 254 in Uncasville, Conn., but the card has lost one main card fight due to a huge weight miss.
Longtime Bellator veteran Goiti Yamauchi was set to welcome Nate Andrews to the promotion in a lightweight contest in the main card of Bellator 254, but weighed in at 162.8 pounds on the scale. Andrews, who made weight at 155.8 pounds, decided not to take the fight.
This is the second weigh miss in a row for Yamauchi, who previously stepped on the scale at 157.8 pounds for his Bellator 237 lightweight clash with Daron Cruickshank in December 2019 in Japan.
Andrews’ manager Tyson Chartier explained on social media that more than six pounds “is too big of a risk to take.”
Andrews fight is off. We are sorry to Nates friends, family, and fans but 6+ lbs is too big of a risk to take. We are obviously bummed but it is what it is. Thanks to Bellator for everything and we are excited to make our debut early 2021. #Bellator254— Tyson Chartier (@TysonChartier) December 9, 2020
Macfarlane and Velasquez successfully made weight under the 125-pound limit. The other eight matchups have been confirmed after all 16 fighters hit the mark.
