Bryan Barberena is out of his next fight after undergoing emergency surgery.

Per an announcement on Barberena’s social media, he has been forced to withdraw from a welterweight bout opposite Daniel Rodriguez scheduled for Nov. 14 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

According to the post, Barberena “had an emergency exploratory laparotomy due to internal bleeding from a couple [of] ruptured arteries in his omentum [an internal organ in the midsection].” A quick recovery is expected, but no timetable has been presented for when Barberena might return to action.

See the full, unedited statement from Barberena’s team below:

Bryan had an emergency exploratory laparotomy due to internal bleeding from a couple ruptured arteries in his omentum. He had 1.5 liters of blood in his abdomen. Bryan’s surgery was successful. He is having pain, which is expected, but he is doing good. The doctor said because he is young and healthy he will have a quick recovery. Unfortunately, due to the surgery, Bryan will not be fighting on November 14th. He is extremely disappointed, and was ready to put on a show, but he will be back ASAP (once he’s healed). He apologizes to his opponent Daniel Rodriguez, and wishes him all the best. There are not enough words in the world to properly thank our support system. We have an incredible family, and friends we call family, and we are so very blessed.

It is not yet known if a new opponent is being sought as a replacement to face Rodriguez. “D-Rod” was aiming to go 4-0 in 2020 after making his UFC debut in February with a submission win over veteran Tim Means.

Barberena competed once this year. He won a unanimous decision over Anthony Ivy in August to snap a two-fight losing streak.
