Ary Farias became the Taura MMA interim bantamweight champion with a quick stoppage over Johnny Campbell in the co-main event of Friday’s Taura MMA 10 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but he didn’t use his high-level jiu-jitsu to secure the victory this time.
A two-time jiu-jitsu world champion as a black belt, Farias rocked Campbell off balance early and quickly took his back, landing an elbow that destroyed his opponent’s left ear. The referee saw the damage and immediately stopped the bout at the 25-second mark, awarding Farias the interim champion.
The flyweight title was on the line in the main event, and TUF Brazil 4 alum Bruno Rodrigues was crowned with a third-round Japanese necktie finish over Felipe Gheno.
Taura MMA 10 featured two other UFC veterans in the cage, but neither won Friday night. Sergio Moraes moved up to the middleweight division in his first bout since leaving the UFC in 2019, and lost a decision to Canada’s Jared Revel. Wendell Oliveira, who fought twice in the UFC against Darren Till and Santiago Ponzinibbio in 2014-15, tapped to a guillotine choke against Rene Pessoa.
