Former Bellator featherweight champion Julia Budd is suspended for 45 days following her fourth-round TKO loss to new champ Cris Cyborg.
Cyborg received the minimum seven-day term required by the California State Athletic Commission, which regulated this past Saturday’s event at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., and released medical suspensions to MMA Fighting.
Cyborg dominated the action from bell to bell before turning up the tempo in the fourth round, unleashing a flurry of strikes that crumpled Budd to the mat. It was a triumphant return to form for Cyborg, who made her Bellator debut after a dramatic split with the UFC this past year.
After her win, Cyborg called for Bellator President Scott Coker to put on a featherweight grand prix. She also welcomed a potential fight with fellow ex-UFC fighter Cat Zingano.
In other notable suspensions, onetime featherweight title challenger Juan Archuleta received a six-month suspension for a possible fracture of his right shoulder and left hand. He can be cleared by a physician.
