Ex-champ Pettis has hopscotched between wins and loss in his past eight outings, most recently suffering a decision loss to Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout at UFC 241. Ferreira is on a major upswing with wins in his past five outings, including a decision over Mairbek Taisumov at UFC 242.

Round 1: Herb Dean on hand for the first main card fight of the night. Ferreira coming forward but Pettis immediately backs him off with a few quick counter rights. For some reason, Ferreira is approaching with one leg partially lifted off the ground, kind of doing a short hop. Odd. He catches a kick and looks for a takedown against the fence, Pettis has it scouted and he’s out. Nice jab by Ferreira, follow-up kick is blocked. They’re trading punches early, but Pettis’s shots are a little more crisp. He’s looking sharp on the feet. Pettis lands a trio of short kicks to the body, just to keep Ferreira at distance. Good kickboxing from both men. Ferreira pushes in for a takedown again and gets it. He maneuvers into back control. Pettis defending well, he spins into his guard and gets on top. They’re back on the feet. High kick by Pettis lands. Ferreira ducks in for another takedown attempt. He’s holding Pettis against the cage, firing knees to the inside of Pettis’s right leg. Pettis slips out and just misses a head kick. Another takedown by Ferreira with 30 seconds to go. He gets right into side control. As he postures up, Pettis spins and pushes Ferreira off of him. Ferreira drops back down and ends up on top. Entertaining round.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Ferreira.

Round 2: Ferreira catches a kick from Pettis and immediately gets the takedown. Pettis struggling to defend this time and he’s down, Ferreira takes the back. He’s working for a the rear-naked choke and they end up against the fence. Ferreira very heavy on top, he gets an arm around the chin. The pain is all over Pettis’s face as Ferreira squeezes. And there’s the tap!

Official result: Diego Ferreira def. Anthony Pettis via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:46 of round two
