Invicta FC atomweight queen Jinh Yu Frey will put her title on the line in a rematch with Ashley Cummins at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City on Oct. 4, the promotion announced Monday. Pearl Gonzalez takes on undefeated flyweight Brogan Walker-Sanchez in the co-main event of Invicta FC 37.
Frey (8-4) will make her return to the Invicta FC cage after another failed attempt to capture a title in Asia, this time losing to Ayaka Hamasaki at Rizin. Frey, who lost to Seo Hee Ham at Road FC in 2017, won her last three under the Invicta FC banner, including a decision over Cummins.
After losing that bout in July 2017, Cummins (7-4) scored back-to-back decision victories over Stephanie Alba and Jessica Delboni in 2018 to earn a crack at the belt. The former TUF 23 contestant and one-time Bellator veteran won three of four bouts since cutting down to atomweight in 2017.
Gonzalez (9-4) will compete for the first time after coming up short in her attempt to win the vacant flyweight title in February, when she lost a technical decision to Vanessa Porto. The UFC veteran was riding a three-fight winning streak prior to that setback.
Walker-Sanchez (6-0) hasn’t fought since July 2018, when she defeated future Invicta Phoenix Series winner Miranda Maverick. It was her second win under the company’s banner, both via split decision. The 31-year-old hasn’t been so active in MMA since her debut in 2014, fighting mostly a year. Earlier this year, Walker-Sanchez withdrew from a fight with Milana Dudieva due to injury.
