He had to wait a while, but Giga Chikadze will get the chance to celebrate a successful Octagon debut.
Chikadze (8-2) fought Brandon Davis (10-8) in a featherweight bout on the preliminary portion of Saturday’s UFC Copenhagen event and after three rounds, the scorecards appeared to render a split draw verdict (including a rare 29-29 scorecard).
Though Davis had some success with his wrestling early, it was Chikadze, a standout professional kickboxer, who appeared to have the advantage in the striking. As it turns out, he did enough to get the win as it was later announced on Saturday’s broadcast that the scores had been incorrectly tallied and the actual result was a split decision victory for Chikadze.
See the Chikadze-Davis scorecard below (correction first reported by MMA Junkie):
Heading into this bout, all of Chikadze’s wins had come by way of knockout or submission and after this incident, he’s probably in no rush to go to the judges again.
