Donald Cerrone may not get another chance to compete this year, after all.
The perennial UFC contender received a 90-day medical suspension following a first-round loss to Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC Vancouver this past Saturday at Rogers Arena.

MMA Fighting obtained a list of UFC Vancouver suspensions from www.mixedmartialarts.com, the Association of Boxing Commission’s official records keeper. The ESPN+ event was regulated by the British Columbia Athletic Commission.
Optimistic despite his loss, Cerrone predicted he’d ask the UFC for a quick turnaround only to be denied due a suspension, which he estimated would last between 60 and 90 days.
As it turned out, “Cowboy” got the longer of the two terms. His suspension from the B.C. Athletic Commissioner notes “no contact training/no competition,” meaning he’s supposed to be out of action until Dec. 7. The UFC has scheduled UFC on ESPN 7 for that date and two other events—UFC 245 and UFC Busan—for the remainder of the month.
Gaethje, who hopes to face the winner of an expected lightweight title fight between champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, did not get out of the Cerrone fight unscathed. He will need medical clearance for his right foot to remove an indefinite suspension.
In other notable suspensions, the B.C. commission gave heavyweight Todd Duffee an indefinite term for a “possible conjunctival abrasion,” or a scratch or abrasion to the mucous membrane lining the inner surface of the eyelid and the white part of the eye ball. Duffee was accidentally poked in the eye in the first round of a fight with Jeff Hughes; the cageside doctor called off the bout after he reported double vision.
