A key fight in the strawweight division will headline the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Tampa, Fla. as former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk takes on Michelle Waterson in the five-round main event.
UFC officials announced the card on Friday after rumors swirled for weeks that the event may take place in San Francisco. Instead, the upcoming card on Oct. 12 will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
A potential title shot looms for the winner in the main event as Jedrzejczyk looks to win back the strawweight belt she held for more than two years.
Jedrzejczyk will be returning to 115 pounds after testing the waters at flyweight for her last fight when she fell to reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko last December. Jedrzejczyk also trains in Florida at American Top Team so she will be close to her adopted home when she returns in October.
Meanwhile, Waterson has rattled off three straight wins to put herself into title contention as well. The former Invicta FC champion called for a shot at the belt following her last win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz but now she will look to cement her spot at the top of the division with a victory over the longest reigning strawweight champion in UFC history.
The UFC also announced two more previously confirmed fights for the card as Brazilian jiu-jitsu star Mackenzie Dern returns to action against Amanda Ribas while flyweights Deiveison Figueiredo meets Tim Elliott in Tampa.
The card will air on ESPN+ in the United States.
