Thursday’s Professional Fighters League regular season finale has hit a snag.
Ronny Markes failed to beat the scale at Wednesday’s weigh-ins for his light heavyweight bout with Dan Spohn at PFL 6, resulting in their fight being canceled. Officials did not announce Markes’s exact weight, only that he missed and due to the fact that this was his second time coming in heavy this season, he has been disqualified from competition.
Due to Ronny Markes missing weight for the second time this season, he is disqualified from PFL competition. @dragonspohn will earn 3 points, a walkover win, and will get his show and win money. #PFL6 pic.twitter.com/DHRUMxCO9a— #PFLmma (@ProFightLeague) August 7, 2019
Spohn was given three points in the regular season standings and both his show and win money. However, with only three points so far, his postseason fate is out of his hands and he will have to wait to see how the action unfolds in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Also making his debut on the card in a “New Fighter Showcase” bout that will not be part of the PFL regular season competition is Umar Nurmagomedov, an unbeaten bantamweight prospect who is the cousin of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
