Two of the UFC featherweight division’s rising contenders will meet this fall.
MMA Fighting confirmed with sources that Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar will meet in the featherweight co-main event of UFC on ESPN 6 on Oct. 18 at TD Garden in Boston, following a report by ESPN.
Magomedsharipov (17-1) has been on a tear since joining the UFC in September 2017, winning all five of his bouts in the Octagon including three by submission. Most recently, he won a unanimous decision over veteran Jeremy Stephens at UFC 235 in March. Overall, Magomedsharipov is on a 13-fight win streak.
Competing in his home state of Massachusetts will be Methuen’s own Kattar (20-3), who is 4-1 in the UFC. Kattar is coming off of back-to-back first-round knockouts of one-time UFC featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas and Chris Fishgold. His only setback inside the Octagon was a unanimous decision loss to Renato Moicano and he has won 12 of his last 13 fights.
The Oct. 18 show will be headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former middleweight champion Chris Weidman and Dominick Reyes, with the main card airing live on ESPN.
