Lyoto Machida won’t be the only karate specialist to enter the cage at Bellator 228.
Weber Almeida, teammate of “The Dragon” in Los Angeles, is set to return to action in a featherweight bout with Castle Williams in Inglewood, Calif., on Sept. 28, promotion officials told MMA Fighting.
Almeida (2-0) made his Bellator debut in January, defeating Odan Chinchilla via first-round knockout, but missed weight for the bantamweight clash. Almeida then didn’t weigh in for a 140-pound catchweight bout in March, forcing the promotion to cancel the fight at Bellator 219. He’s now scheduled to compete at 145 pounds.
Williams (4-2) is coming off a sub-minute submission win in April, marking his return to MMA for the first time since 2017. All of Williams’ professional wins came by stoppage, three in the opening round. As an amateur, he went 4-0 with four first-round chokes.
Bellator 228 will take place at The Forum in Inglewood and feature Almeida’s teammate Lyoto Machida taking on Gegard Mousasi in the co-main event. Featherweight champion Patricio Freire headlines the show against Juan Archuleta in a tournament bout.
The card also includes three other featherweight tournament bouts, pitting Darrion Caldwell against Henry Corrales, Daniel Weichel versus Saul Rogers, and AJ McKee Jr. vs. Georgi Karakhanyan.
