A heavyweight rematch between Frank Mir and Roy Nelson will headline Bellator 231 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 25, which goes down 24 hours before Bellator 232 in the same venue featuring the finals of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix.
Sources confirmed the fight and event to MMA Fighting on Saturday following an initial report from MMAJunkie. It’s expected that the Bellator 231 fight card along with Mir vs. Nelson 2 will be announced during Bellator 225 on Saturday night.
The showdown between Mir and Nelson will be a rematch from a fight that first happened back in 2011. On that night, Mir won a unanimous decision over Nelson while both were competing in the UFC.
Now Mir will look for a second win over Nelson while he’s still trying to get his first victory in Bellator after falling in back-to-back knockouts against Fedor Emelianenko and Javy Ayala.
As for Nelson, he’s also looking to get back in the win column after dropping his past three fights in a row including a knockout suffered against Sergei Kharitonov and a unanimous decision defeat against Mirko Cro Cop in his last performance back in February.
The following night after Mir vs. Nelson 2 happens, the finals of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix will take place as Rory MacDonald takes on Douglas Lima at Bellator 232.
