Brian Ortega is ready to book his next fight in the UFC and he knows exactly who he’d like to face.
Rumors swirled for several weeks that Ortega was going to meet “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung at the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Mexico City. Unfortunately, the fight never came together, and the UFC opted for a featherweight fight between Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens as the headliner for the show.
While Ortega didn’t get into too many specifics, he confirmed when speaking to MMA Fighting this past weekend that he was preparing for that fight against Jung in Mexico City when the matchup fell apart.
“In my head it was great. “Korean [Zombie]” was talking smack, I felt good, I was already back to training, I was like cool. I had my boys in Mexico City set up, training facilities over there,” Ortega explained.
“I had a whole layout and then some unfortunate events in management and team and everything happened. Now we had to fix everything and now we’re back.”
As much as Ortega wanted to compete in Mexico City, he will no longer get that chance with the fight card already filled out.
Despite the date and location no longer being a viable option, Ortega says he still really likes the matchup, which is why he hopes the UFC will seek to book the fight a second time in the future.
Ortega is anxious to return to the Octagon and “The Korean Zombie”, who is fresh off a stunning knockout over Renato Moicano in his last outing, serves as the perfect opponent as he seeks to get back into title contention.
“I want to fight. I want to give the fans a main event fight somewhere,” Ortega said. “Korean Zombie” sounds good, especially after the fact that he’s talking s—t, which is not like him, so I’m guessing there’s something behind that.
“If he can keep talking and the fans want to see it and we can make that a main event somewhere, we should.”
