Stipe Miocic explains his unique ‘Old School’ post-fight celebration at UFC 241

Stipe Miocic may be the greatest heavyweight fighter in the history of mixed martial arts, but he’s never going to proclaim he’s the best dancer.

Following his stunning comeback win to knock out Daniel Cormier to become a two-time heavyweight champion at UFC 241 on Saturday, the Ohio native uncorked a unique post-fight celebration that included some kind of dance.

Afterwards, Miocic was asked about his celebration and it turns out he might have to blame Will Ferrell for what he did in the Octagon on Saturday night.

“Has anybody seen Old School? We watched it today and I kind of ‘Frank the Tank’d’ it,” Miocic said at the UFC 241 post fight press conference while referencing the classic 2003 comedy. “I just had no idea what I was doing. I don’t know why I did it.

“I feel really dumb that I did it. Then I did the ‘suck it’ [crotch chop], I don’t know why. I feel like I didn’t know what to do with my hands or my feet. I’m an idiot, just dumb.”

Typically known as one of the most soft-spoken fighters on the UFC roster, Miocic had every reason to celebrate considering what he accomplished with his win over Cormier.

Not only did he reclaim the heavyweight title but he becomes only the second fighter in history—along with Jon Jones—to pick up a win over Cormier.

As far as his dance moves, Miocic never has anything planned, but he lets the emotions of the moment take over and what you witnessed on Saturday night was the result.

“I think adrenaline takes over,” Miocic said. “I’m the guy at the party that does dumb stuff like ‘why would he do that?’ It’s fun.”
