Amanda Nunes is returning to the Octagon against a familiar foe.
On Saturday night, MMA Fighting confirmed an initial report from ESPN of Nunes putting her UFC bantamweight title on the line against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 245 in December.
Nunes (18-4), the reigning UFC bantamweight and featherweight champion, previously finished de Randamie with a violent TKO win in their initial meeting in 2013. Since then, Nunes has continued her tear through both the UFC women’s 135 and 145-pound divisions, culminating in becoming the UFC’s third ever “champ champ” last December.
To date, “The Lioness” holds wins notable stoppage wins over former champions Holly Holm, Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate as well as former title challengers Raquel Pennington and a pair of decision wins over current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
De Randamie (9-3), the inaugural women’s featherweight champion, was famously stripped of her 145-pound title due to inactivity and her hesitation to put her title on the line against Cyborg. Not soon after, de Randamie announced she was dropping back down to bantamweight.
In terms of competition, “The Iron Lady” was last seen starching Aspen Ladd just 16 seconds into their main event fight at UFC Sacramento in July. This win not only extended her win streak five straight but marked her fourth career (T)KO win.
UFC 245 is currently slated to go down on Dec. 14 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. With this latest addition, here is how the entire card stands:
