On Thursday, video surfaced of Conor McGregor punching an older gentleman in the head in a Dublin pub. The incident occurred back in April and was reportedly over a dispute about McGregor’s Proper 12 whiskey. Allegedly, McGregor offered to buy bar patrons a shot of his whiskey, one man refused, McGregor insisted brashly, the man reportedly told McGregor that “the Russian battered you”, which prompted McGregor to pop the man with a left hand when he wasn’t looking.

It’s a terrible look for the former two-division UFC champion. UFC President Dana White commented yesterday seeming exasperated at his biggest star’s continuing PR disaster, saying “I just don’t know when he wakes up and says ‘I’ve got to stop doing this’.” And now the very Russian who battered him has also weighed in.

Speaking with TMZ Sports, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov commented on the video, calling the incident “really, really bad” and saying that there is no excuse for McGregor’s actions.

“It’s crazy,” Khabib said. “All media stayed quiet. Nobody posted about this. I can’t imagine if I punched this guy how many media are gonna post it and talk about me. This is like really, really bad thing. Like, even if this old guy on video punch your face 10 times, you can’t punch this guy’s face. You can’t. This is like impossible. We have to respect all people. I don’t understand.”

Nurmagomedov and McGregor have an extensive history which culminated in their fight at UFC 229 in October. Nurmagomedov successfully defended his lightweight title that night, mauling McGregor en route to a fourth-round submission victory. Afterwards, Nurmagomedov nearly incited a riot by jumping out of the cage to start a brawl with McGregor’s team. That resulted in suspensions for both men and heavy fines. But neither the fines, nor the suspension, not Khabib’s “humbling” of McGregor seems to have had any impact on “Notorious” so Nurmagomedov thinks perhaps some jail time is what McGregor needs to straighten up.

“Some friend sent me some message today,” Khabib said. “He said, ‘Hey, you remember when he tried to give you his whiskey and you don’t take this? Why he don’t punch you? Now he go crazy with old people.’ I don’t understand this.

“I think these people have to go jail, bro. They have to go jail. This happened in Ireland? What happened about Ireland government? We guys from Russia have problem with visa, but why this bullsh*t guy don’t have problem with visa in U.S.A? How U.S.A. can give him visa or something like this, respect or job? These people, they have to go jail.”

It appears though that McGregor will not be going to jail over the incident. Back in April, the Irish police commented that an investigation was taking place but no arrests had been made and the police have reportedly seen the video so it’s unlikely McGregor will face any criminal repercussions over the incident. Civil repercussions could be ensuing but McGregor is old hat at dealing with those at this point. Earlier this year McGregor was arrested for an incident involving a fan outside of Liv nightclub where he smashed a fan’s cell phone. That fan later filed a civil suit but dropped it after reportedly settling the incident out of court.

You know the old saying ‘the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results’? Well Nurmagomedov says it’s crazy to continue allowing McGregor to act in this manner and is adamant that he needs to be sent to jail to prevent things like this from continuing to happen.

“I told you guy, this guy have no class, no respect,” Khabib said. “This is very bad for sport. Somethings he’s done are good for sport but right now, he without his mind. He lose his mind. It’s crazy and government has to smash him, this is my opinion.

“I’m really, really mad about this video. I don’t understand how you can punch old man. How you can punch him. Even if he punch your face 10 times, 20 times. This is big, big disrespect, not only for this old guy, this is big disrespect for all people. . .

“100 percent [they should arrest him]. Today he punches old guy, what’s gonna happen tomorrow? Nobody knows.”

Needless to say this will only fuel the talk for a rematch between Khabib and McGregor but the UFC lightweight champion has other things to concern himself with right now. Nurmagomedov defends his title against interim champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 on Sept. 7 in Abu Dhabi.
