Ronda Rousey lands recurring role in FOX’s drama series ‘9-1-1’ for season 3

Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey has booked a new acting gig with a recurring role on the procedural drama “9-1-1” on FOX.

According to an initial report from Deadline, Rousey will play a firefighter named Lena Bosko — “a stoic and fearless member of the Los Angeles Fire Department Station 136 who leaps into action to save lives when a disaster hits”.

Season 3 of “9-1-1” centers around a tsunami landing in Santa Monica.

The series was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, who are also behind the hugely popular FX series “American Horror Story”. “9-1-1” stars Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Peter Krause, Rockmund Dunbar and Kenneth Choi.

Rousey has crossed over into acting with appearances in several films including the “Entourage” movie where she played a fictionalized version of herself as well as roles in “The Expendables 3’ and “Furious 7” as part of the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

The last major acting role that Rousey took on was a co-starring part in “Mile 22” where she joined Mark Wahlberg and “The Walking Dead” star Lauren Cohan in a film directed by Peter Berg.

More recently, Rousey has been a full-time performer for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where she was part of the first ever women’s main event at WrestleMania this past April. Since that time, Rousey has stepped away from her professional wrestling career to focus on starting a family with her husband, UFC heavyweight Travis Browne.

Rousey will take on the recurring role on the FOX series just weeks before WWE moves “Smackdown Live” to the network.

While Rousey has hinted at a return to the ring for WWE, it appears for now she’s turning her attention back to acting with the recurring role on “9-1-1” with season 3 kicking off on Sept. 23.

As for her fighting career, Rousey has never officially retired but she has all but closed the door on any potential return to the UFC in the future.
