UFC Uruguay live blog: Vicente Luque vs. Mike Perry

This is the UFC Uruguay live blog for Vicente Luque vs. Mike Perry, a welterweight bout at Saturday’s UFC event at Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Luque, who has finished his last five opponents, faces Perry, who has alternated wins and losses in his last four outings, in the co-main event.

Round 1: Eduardo Herdy the third man in the cage for this fight. Luque takes the center of the Octagon. Perry gets through with a good right hand. He’s showing good head movement as he closes the distance. Luque scoring with kicks to Perry’s lead leg. Perry head-hunting early. Luque connects with a pair of counter-punches. He’s starting to find the range. Hard kick to the body lands for Perry. He’s throwing nothing but power up top. Luque sticking with the jab. 1-2 for Perry lands. Jumping knee glances Perry’s chin. They trade jabs. Both men with marks on their faces already. Perry firing from all angles. Cuts around both eyes for Perry now. Perry throwing hard with both hands, but Luque’s defense is holding up. Great work from both fighters so far.

Round 2: Perry pushes Luque up against the fence to start the second round. Perry with some good elbows in close. They’re back in the center of the Octagon firing freely. High volume affair so far. Perry goes to the body and gets a punch to the head for his troubles. Perry starting to back Luque up with his punches, but Luque is accurately countering. Perry is throwing and landing more this round though. Nice right hand over the top by Luque gets Perry’s attention. He answers with a short combination. Neither guy doing a good job of protecting their faces. Luque with an uppercut, Perry responds with a trio of punches. They have been standing in the pocket for 10 straight minutes.

Round 3: Kick to the body by Luque starts this round. Luque sticking with low kicks. Perry answers with kicks of his own, neither guy reverting to brawling yet. Perry gets through with a straight left. Front kick to the body backs Perry up. Luque punishing the lead leg. Counter-left by Perry. Perry with the takedown attempt, it’s blocked. They’re working for underhooks against the cage. Crowd getting restless, so Perry flips them off mid-clinch. Big jumping knee by Luque, but Perry gets a takedown off of it. Guillotine choke attempt by Luque and he is literally squeezing the blood out of Perry. Perry looking to score with punches to the body. Perry slips his head out. He’s on top to end the fight.
