Jan Blachowicz insists that he will make Luke Rockhold respect him as he is set to welcome the former middleweight champion to the light heavyweight division this Saturday night at UFC 239 in Las Vegas.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, Rockhold underlined his desire to fight champion Jon Jones immediately after having his raised against Blachowicz.

Although the betting lines are firmly tipping Rockhold to take victory on Saturday night, the former KSW champion is happy to have been given the opportunity to introduce him to his new division.

“Yes, of course [I’m happy to be welcoming him to the light heavyweight division],” Blachowicz told MMA Fighting. “I can’t wait to step into the Octagon and start punching Luke Rockhold. So, yes, I’m really excited about this.”

With Rockhold already eyeing a championship date before his clash with Blachowicz, the Polish light-heavyweight is adamant that he will teach the former middleweight king to appreciate his skillset when they meet.

“Trash talking doesn’t work on me. I don’t care, he can say what he wants to say, he has to say something. I don’t care; I don’t listen to him.”

“You know why he’s [talking about fighting Jones]? Because he’s scared of me,” he added. “He’s thinking about different fighters and not me because he doesn’t respect me. I’ll teach him to respect me in the fight. Everyone keeps sending me emails and messages telling me to knock him out because he is not a good person.”

Despite his indifference to Rockhold as a person, Blachowicz praised his opponent’s ability.

“He’s a really great fighter. I have to watch out for his left leg, but I think his best game is on the ground; jiu-jitsu and wrestling. I think he’ll just throw two or three punches and try to take me down. That’s going to be his game. If the fight goes to the ground, I’ll show him my skills. I think my jiu-jitsu is also really good and even better than his.”

That being said, Blachowicz is confident that he has what it takes to upset the applecart.

“I will shock the world if that’s how you want to put it,” he said. “Every time I visualize the fight I see myself knocking him out in the second round with my left hand.”
