A rising middleweight contender and a former lightweight contender looking for a fresh start have been booked for Bellator 229.
On Wednesday, MMA Fighting confirmed with officials a pair of bouts, Anatoly Tokov vs. Hracho Darpinyan in a middleweight bout, and Derek Anderson making his welterweight debut against Guilherme Vasconcelos, for the Oct. 4 show at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif.
Tokov (28-3) is unbeaten in four Bellator appearances since joining the promotion in 2017. His last two wins have been a second-round submission of veteran Gerald Harris and a unanimous decision win over former Bellator champion Alexander Shlemenko.
Making his second Bellator appearance and facing Tokov will be Armenia’s “Hracho Man.” Darpinyan (17-8-2) has won four straight fights and five of his last six. He fought Harris to a majority draw in his Bellator debut.
Anderson (15-3) is moving up to 170 pounds after primarily competing at 155 pounds for the last few years. “The Barbaric” holds notable decision wins over Patricky Freire and Saad Awad. His last two bouts have been catchweight affairs including his most recent outing, a 165-pound encounter with Zak Bucia that ended with Anderson winning a unanimous decision.
