“The Canadian Gangster” is facing an uncertain future.
Olivier Aubin-Mercier suffered a third straight loss at UFC 240 this past weekend in Edmonton, Alberta, dropping a unanimous decision to Armenian prospect Arman Tsarukyan. The skid follows a four-fight win streak that had “OAM” looking like a potential contender at 155 pounds.
On Monday, Aubin-Mercier (11-5) issued a statement on social media in which he expressed his disappointment over his recent results and his plans to move forward with his career.
“Won’t lie, I’m heartbroken,” Aubin-Mercier wrote. “Three consecutive [losses] is not great, when you try to be the best in the world. I was more than ready and was better than ever, [Tsarukyan] was simply the better man. I don’t know what’s going to happen next.
“The only thing I know is that I’m not done. I will be back. I still think I’m getting better every day, I’m healthy and I still have the passion to fight. I love my life and I’m proud of what I accomplished so far, this is just a pretty big bump in my career.”
Aubin-Mercier, 30, finished his message by thanking his coaches and supporters.
A finalist on The Ultimate Fighter: Nations five years ago, Aubin-Mercier has gone on to compile a 7-5 record in the UFC. His three consecutive losses have come against Tsarukyan, Gilbert Burns, and Alexander Hernandez.
