UFC 240 results: Krzysztof Jotko edges out Marc-Andre Barriault by split decision

It wasn’t pretty but Krzysztof Jotko got the job done on Saturday night in Edmonton.

The veteran middleweight was able to eke past Marc-Andre Barriault by split decision after a grueling three round battle that started the UFC 240 main card. Two judges scored the fight 29-28 in favor of Jotko with the third judge going for Barriault with the same 29-28 scorecard.

It was a battle of positions throughout the fight with Barriault constantly stepping forward but struggling to deal with Jotko’s volume and accuracy. With Jotko landing more than 50-percent of his strikes, it forced Barriault to make adjustments including a takedown late in the opening round.

Perhaps the best punch of the fight came from Jotko’s deceptive right uppercut that consistently found a home on Barriault’s chin, although the Canadian fighter showed a strong chin while absorbing every shot.

It was a constant back and forth battle for the majority of the fight with Barriault locking up in the clinch over and over again while Jotko did his best to land strikes on the inside as he tried to work away from the cage wall.

With less than 30 seconds to go in the fight, Jotko secured a late takedown and stayed on top of Barriault until the final horn, which may have helped him earn the round and perhaps the victory.

Jotko has now won his last two fights in a row after suffering through a three-fight skid between 2017 and 2018. Meanwhile, Barriault has fallen in back-to-back contests this year since joining the UFC roster.
