Gunnar Nelson hopes that the UFC will afford Nicolas Dalby a UFC return for its first trip to Copenhagen on Sept. 28.
One of the most celebrated fighters from Denmark, Dalby has been on a mission to get back into the UFC after a battling depression and attempting to unify the Cage Warriors welterweight title in a viral contest with Ross Houston at last month’s Night of Champions event.
Many believed that Dalby and Houston were fighting for a UFC contract as well as Cage Warriors gold in the London main event, but the bout was deemed a no contest when the vinyl surface off the cage became too slippery due to the bloodshed in round three.

Although the cage floor denied Dalby the opportunity to have his hand raised in the Hammersmith Apollo, “Gunni” believes it makes sense for his fellow Scandinavian to get a recall to the world’s biggest MMA stage.
“I definitely think he deserves a shot to come back on that card and it makes sense,” Nelson told MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast.
“It’s in his hometown and he’s been on a rip. He seems like a different man now. He was going through some sh*t for a while and it kind of messed him up for a bit. But he’s training hard, he’s looking good and he’s doing well. This was a crazy fight that he had and I think that he should get another shot for sure.”
