Leon Edwards on Darren Till’s potential move to middleweight: ‘I wish him all the best’

Leon Edwards was once vying for a shot at his fellow Englishman and welterweight Darren Till, but as far as “Rocky” is concerned, there was “nothing personal” between the two in terms of genuine animosity.

The British duo became quite volatile discussing their potential clash at the initial UFC London press conference earlier this year. However, in light of Till’s recent social media hint with regard to a future at middleweight, Edwards underlined that he has no underlying issues with “The Gorilla”.

“I’m already number one in the U.K., I think I’ve proved that point already,” said Edwards, who faces former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC San Antonio this weekend.

“The thing with me and Till was never personal, it wasn’t like I hated the man or anything like that. I just wanted that fight. I was a welterweight, he was a welterweight; he was saying he was number one and I felt like I was number one, that was it really.”

Edwards wished Till all the best if he should follow through with the move to the heavier weight class.

“I wish him all the best if he moves up to the new weight class, maybe now we can be friends,” said Edwards, laughing. “It’s all good between us. I hope he does well in the new weight division.”
