John Howard needed a big finish to guarantee himself a spot in the PFL playoffs.
He got it.
The 15-year veteran was matched up with 2018 breakout star Ray Cooper III in the opening main card bout of PFL 4 on Thursday and he made Cooper pay for his brawling style, putting the Hawaiian away with strikes 3:23 into round one.
A knockout artist in his own right, Cooper pursued Howard aggressively only to walk right into a left hand that immediately dropped him to the canvas. He recovered, but another left from “Doomsday” robbed Cooper of his senses and the bout was waved off shortly after as Howard rained down punches.
The win gave Howard six points (three for the win, three for the first-round finish) in the standings and he will be moving on to the PFL playoffs for a shot at the season championship and a 1$ million prize.
Cooper’s second-round submission of Zane Kamaka at PFL 1 also qualified him for the postseason with five points.
