Cage Warriors 106 results, videos: Ross Houston vs. Nicolas Dalby main event ends in bloodbath, no contest

Ross Houston and Nicolas Dalby’s title unification bout in the main event of Cage Warriors 106: Night of Champions at the Hammersmith Apollo had to be called off after the amount of blood in the cage and the damage both men sustained saw the fight stopped.

As the fight had not gone three rounds, the fight was determined to be a no contest.

Dalby was sliced open from the Scot’s elbow in the opening exchanges. Despite a significant amount of blood, he rallied back with a dominant round in the second after a piston right hand broke Houston’s nose.

The Dane’s eye continued to swell in the third, but he continued to set a relentless pace and cracked Houston with a flush knee that forced the attention of the cageside medics. Referee Marc Goddard voiced his concern with the amount of blood on the canvas of the cage as both fighters began to slip as they exchanged. Shortly thereafter, Goddard stopped the fight.

In the co-main event, Jai Herbert claimed the vacant Cage Warriors lightweight title with a stunning striking display against Jack Grant.

After being on the end of Grant’s grappling onslaught over the first round and a half, Herbert came alive in the striking exchanges, tagging Grant liberally for the remainder of the second. Herbert’s accuracy was outstanding in the third, he pumped his jab in Grant’s face and began to overwhelm him. After a lengthy passage of unanswered blows, the referee stepped in to stop the contest midway through the third round.

Mads Burnell overcame a stunning spinning elbow and a flush knee from Dean Trueman to claim a second-round submission victory via Japanese necktie. Trueman did well to fight off a rear-naked choke attempt in the first round and despite having some success in the striking exchanges, Burnell was able to force the tap when the fight hit the ground in round two.

James Webb walked away from the event with his middleweight title still securely wrapped around his waist, but it was a point deduction that likely cost Nathias Frederick the contest when he spiked Webb on his head in the fifth round of the contest. It was the second time that Frederick used the piledriver technique having attempted a similar slam in the third round.

After a back and forth fight, the judges determined the contest a majority draw: 47-47, 47-47, 45-49.

Samir Faiddine scored a huge upset win over Sam Creasey in the third round of their flyweight title clash to claim a vacant title. The French fighter caught Creasey with a big right hand as he looked to close the distance and land a flurry of his own. Faiddine landed one last shot before the referee stopped the action. Although he is considered one of the best in his weight category in the U.K., Creasey is now 0-2 in Cage Warriors title shots.

In the first title fight of the night, Modestas Bukauskas scored an upset win over previously undefeated Norwegian wrestling standout, Marthin Hamlet, to claim the vacant light heavyweight championship. Bukauskas landed a clinical shot to Hamlet’s temple in the fourth. Hamlet slumped to his knees and ate several shots before the referee stopped the action.
