Jack Shore eyes UFC Copenhagen debut: ‘That would be perfect’

Former Cage Warriors champion and newly signed UFC fighter Jack Shore believes that UFC Copenhagen would be a perfect event to open his account in the Octagon.

Speaking on the latest episode of MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast, the undefeated Welsh prospect revealed his belief that his passionate supporters would travel in their droves to the Danish capital if he were added to the card.

“That would be perfect. Obviously, with a fight in Europe, it’s not a million miles to travel. I’m open to whatever, if they say they want me to fight in America or Russia, I’m down for it. I’m just grateful to be able to fight for the promotion and I’ll fight wherever they tell me to,” Shore told Eurobash.

“Copenhagen is not a million miles from Wales. We could take a big fan base over there. It would be nice to get on that card, but again, there are guys much higher up the pecking order than me that they might put on that card first. It’s just a matter of seeing who they come to Graham [manager] with and what opponents are available and then taking what comes out way.”

“Tank” refused to request any particular opponent, asserting that pitching certain opponents could be seen as a sign of weakness.

“It’s not in my mentality to think that way,” Shore replied when asked if he had a preferred opponent for his promotional debut. “In my head, it’s a matter of me fighting whoever is in front of me and if I’m willing to do that, put on a performance and finish the fight, that’s going to do more for me than calling out different names.

“I think [calling people out] makes it look like I’m trying to pick and choose who I want to fight. Whoever they put in front of me [is fine], obviously the top 10 or top 15 is the end goal, but if I get a couple of good wins there is no reason why I can’t start pushing for that. I know the level I’m at and I watch the UFC religiously, I’m a bit of a fan boy, so I’ve been watching these top 10 and top 15 guys and there is no doubt in my mind that I can compete and beat those guys.”

Shore underlined his excitement with regard to the current state of the UFC’s bantamweight division.

“I’m very excited. As good as the division is, the top 10 guys always seem to get cycled. There are constantly people coming through like Petr Yan and Nathaniel [Wood]. You get two or three wins in the UFC and you’re already starting to push into that top 15. It’s an exciting time for a lot of the divisions, you see a lot of new stars emerging and it’s exciting to be watching some of these fights knowing that in a couple of months time it’s going to be me in there putting on a show.”

He also believes that his experiences cornering teammate Jack Marshman will stand to him when he eventually makes his first walk to the Octagon.

“I’ve cornered Jack two or three times when he’s been in there, so that in itself is a little bit of an advantage. Every time I’ve cornered him I’ve gone out with him from the minute he’s landed, in terms of fight week I’ve always been there for the full week. I think that’s an advantage for me, I see how everything works through the Tuesday all the way through to the weigh-ins and how you warm up and walk out. Although it’s a new fighter for the promotion, I’ve seen what goes on behind the scenes and I’ve got a little feel for it. It’s not going to be completely alien when the fight week and fight night comes.”
