Juan Archuleta might have punched his way to a Bellator title shot.
“The Spaniard” landed a powerful right hand square on Eduardo Dantas’s chin in the closing seconds of their featherweight bout at Bellator 222 on Friday, a shot that immediately robbed the two-time Bellator champion of his consciousness.
It had been a fairly even fight up to that point, but even with Archuleta doing enough to win a decision, he made sure there would be no controversy with his knockout of Dantas at the 4:59 mark of round two.
Post-fight, Archuleta, who has won 23 of his 24 pro bouts, made it clear that his plan was to return to 135 pounds and challenge new Bellator titleholder Kyoji Horiguchi.
