Entering UFC Stockholm, both Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith were on a quest to erase the memories of their recent losses to reigning light heavyweight champion Jon Jones
While both men put on an entertaining, and bloody, scrap for the Swedish fans, it was Smith who walked away with the ‘W’ as he forced Gustafsson to submit early in the fourth round. But while Smith celebrated in victory, the crowd in attendance was silenced as Gustafsson dropped his gloves in the Octagon and declared “the show is over.”
Check out the reaction to Smith’s victory and Gustafsson’s shocking retirment below, plus the best of the rest from an action-packed card inside the Ericsson Globe.

Congrats to @AlexTheMauler on an amazing career! Hate to see him bow out but have to respect when a fighter is no longer willing to make that walk. One of the greatest in and outside of the cage, he’ll be missed in the Ufc.

That KO of Manuwa was one of the worst head bouncing off of canvas falls I’ve ever seen! That hard on the back of the head after the lights are already out is not good at all. Hope he’s ok. #UFCstockholm

Makwan Amirkhani def. Chris Fishgold
Too little too late on that darce attempt but nice timing on that takedown by Akwan, stayed out of trouble nicely with fishgold sub attempts
— Brian Kelleher (@brianboom135) June 1, 2019
Makwan was letting that fight slip Way based off activity and then he hits that slick arm in guillotine to anaconda sequence. Beautiful work to Get the finish on a black belt in fishgold
— Brian Kelleher (@brianboom135) June 1, 2019
Someone throw that man an apple! #UFCStockholm #submission
— Cynthia Calvillo (@cyn_calvillo) June 1, 2019
My only pick for this card just cashed. Makwan dominated the grappling exchanges!
— Chas Skelly (@ChasSkelly) June 1, 2019
Nice sub by Amirkhani. Didn’t see that boxing they were talking about though. #UFCSweden

Daniel Teymur def. Sung Bin Jo
This fight just completely slowed down , both hesitating at the same time, teymur wants jo to throw to catch him on the way in but not happening. I like how jo lands quick knee in the clinch great timing on that
— Brian Kelleher (@brianboom135) June 1, 2019
