Former Strikforce champion Gilbert Melendez is set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon against Arnold Allen at UFC 239.
UFC officials confirmed the featherweight scrap had been added to the July fight card on Wednesday afternoon.
Melendez (22-7), also a former WEC champion, is looking to snap a career worst four-fight losing streak. In his most recent performance, fans saw him drop a narrow decision to Jeremy Stephens at UFC 215 in September 2017. Prior to this, fans saw Melendez came up short to Edson Barboza and former UFC champions Anthony Pettis and Eddie Alvarez.
To date his, his last win came in the form of a bloody decision victory over Diego Sanchez at UFC 166 on October 2013.
On the flip side, Allen (14-1) is looking to extend his seven-fight win streak, which includes five straight victories inside the Octagon. Most recently, the man known as “Almighty” edged out Jordan Rinaldi at UFC London. Prior to this, Allen earned his second Performance of the Night bonus for his submission over Mads Burnell.
UFC 239 will go down inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. With this latest addition, here is how the entire card stands:
