This is The A-Side Live Chat on MMA Fighting.
Today will be José Youngs’ first show as host. He will be joined by MMA Fighting’s Alexander K. Lee.
The two will preview this weekend’s UFC Stockholm card, which will go down on Saturday at Ericsson Globe. The show is set to be headlined by a light heavyweight scrap between former title challengers Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith. Who is most in need of a victory? What will a loss do to their careers? Is Smith a legitimate contender or a product of a shallow 205-pound division? Is Gustafsson’s recent talk of retirement concerning?
We’ll also look at the recent string of roster cuts, including the departures of Elias Theodorou and others. Should fighters with a “fan-friendly” fighting style have more job security? Does turning down a fight warrant losing their job? What type of message is the UFC trying to send the rest of the roster?
We’ll also speak about UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber’s upcoming return to the Octagon at UFC Sacramento. Is it smart for the new father to don the four-ounce gloves again? Is Ricky Simon the right opponent for his first fight in more than three years? Has the sport of MMA passed him by?
Also on tap, PFL’s second season continues to roll on with their heavyweight and light heavyweight tournaments, Tyron Woodley’s arthritis flares up, Francis Ngannou vs. Junior dos Santos moves to UFC Minneapolis, Rashad Evans is the latest inductee into the 2019 UFC Hall of Fame class, plus much more!
There is plenty to discuss, so join us to rap on all of the above and much more. As we always say, this is your show, so we will talk about whatever it is you want us to talk about. The chat will start at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.
As always, we’ll post the video window as the event draws near and answer any questions you might have if you post them in the comments below. For the comments you deem the most deserving, please click the “rec” button. Comments in green will get first priority.
