A member of the UFC Hall of Fame will soon enter the Octagon.
Urijah Faber, who retired from the sport following a decision victory over Brad Pickett in Sacramento in Dec. 2016, has agreed to take on Ricky Simon at UFC’s return to the city on July 13, sources said. MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer confirmed the bout with sources.
Faber (34-10), who competed twice under grappling rules recently, is one of the responsible for making the lighter weight divisions popular since the WEC days. “The California Kid”, a former WEC champion and multiple-time title contender in the UFC, holds wins over the likes of Dominick Cruz, Jens Pulver, Bibiano Fernandes, Raphael Assuncao and Michael McDonald.
Simon (15-1), 13 years younger than the leader of Team Alpha Male, is a former LFA bantamweight champion who has gone perfect in three UFC appearances, capped off by an one-sided decision win over Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert Rani Yahya in February. The Gracie Barra Portland product is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak that includes three finishes.
The UFC has yet to announce which bout will headline the event, which takes place at Sacramento’s Golden1 Center.
