Lance Palmer cruised to a victory in his first bout of PFL’s season two featherweight tournament.
Palmer, who won PFL’s season one 145-pound tourney last year to take home the $1 million prize, outwrestled Alex Gilpin with ease to collect three points in the main event of PFL 13. The card went down on Thursday night at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, N.Y.
Palmer looked to finish the fight early, dropping Gilpin in the opening minutes of round one, but then followed with his grappling and submission threats. Rounds two and three were more grappling oriented in favor of Palmer. The 32-year-old fighter is now 18-3 as a pro and currently finds himself on a seven-fight win streak.
In the co-main event of the night, former UFC fighter Chris Wade also picked up three points but in the lightweight tournament.
He defeated newcomer Nate Andrews via unanimous decision. It was a competitive affair that was full of scrambles and back-and-forth grappling exchanges. It was Wade’s wrestling base and takedowns that had him dominating and getting an edge in the grappling department all throughout the fight. Wade is 3-2 since leaving the UFC in 2017.
Additionally, former WSOF featherweight title holder Andre Harrison tallied three points in a comfortable decision win over Peter Petties. Harrison utilized his wrestling to take down and control Petties over the course of 15 minutes. “The Bull” bounced back from his first professional loss, which came to PFL season one winner Lance Palmer, and improved his record to 20-1.
Also worth noting, 28-year-old Movlid Khaybulaev maintained his undefeated status by scoring an insane flying-knee knockout over Damon Jackson in just 10 seconds.
