Shortly after suffering back-to-back losses for the first time in his career, Kevin Lee reached out to his fans with a somber message.

“The Motown Phenom” fell to Rafael dos Anjos by fourth-round submission in the main event of UFC Rochester on Saturday after a competitive match. In sharing his thoughts on the bout, Lee seemed to be searching for the words to explain what went wrong in his first UFC fight at 170 pounds.

“Don’t know what happened out there tonight,” Lee said. “I thought I did everything right leading up to this fight. Tried to eliminate every little distraction, everything that wasn’t good for me. I swear I felt like something—everything was falling into place and was talking to me even before I walked out there. It still wasn’t enough.

“This shit sometimes will be like, highest highs and lowest lows, this shit really make you question what you believe in. But I don’t know, I been through a lot of shit in my life. This really ain’t gonna be shit.”

A one-time interim UFC lightweight title challenger, Lee (17-5) has now lost three of his last four fights.
