Deron Winn’s UFC debut is still on schedule.
Originally booked to fight Markus Perez at UFC Greenville on July 22, Winn was left with some uncertainty after Perez announced his withdrawal from the bout. A week later, officials have found a new opponent for Winn.
MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz has confirmed with sources that Winn (5-0) will now be facing Bruno Silva (19-6) in a middleweight bout, following an initial announcement by Winn via Instagram:
Silva is the reigning M-1 Global middleweight champion having defeated Artem Frolov by fourth-round TKO last November to claim that title. The 29-year-old Brazilian has won four straight fights, all by KO/TKO.
A three-time NCAA All-American wrestler fighting out of the American Kickboxing Academy, Winn will be competing at 185 pounds for the first time. He was last seen winning a unanimous decision against UFC veteran Tom Lawlor at Golden Boy MMA: Liddell vs. Ortiz 3 in November.
