Bellator 221: Michael Chandler vs. Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire live blog

This is the Bellator 221 live blog for Michael Chandler vs. Patricio Freire, a lightweight title fight at Saturday’s Bellator event at the All State Arena in Rosemont, Illi.

Chandler, the reigning lightweight champion, was last seen reclaiming his title with dominant decision over Brent Primus in their rematch at Bellator Hawaii in December. Freire, the reigning featherweight champion, is looking to make history as the promotion’s second double champion.

Round 1

Chandler opens up with a wide stance as he stalks Freire across the canvas. Freire circles to the outside with his back to the cage. Freire clips Chandler with a counter right as his opponent looked to duck under. Freire catches Chandler again, sending him tumbling to the canvas.

Freire swarms in with a few more punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight. Chandler immediately looks at the referee in protest.
