Bellator lightweight Patricky Freire went under the knife Monday to fix a wrist injury.

“Pitbull” (21-8) scored his fifth straight victory in February, defeating Ryan Scope via split decision in the main event of Bellator Newcastle. Right after the fight, the Brazilian lightweight revealed he injured his hand in the first round.

A few hours after the surgery on Monday night, Freire revealed he “ruptured a tendon on my wrist in the first round of my last fight,” he wrote on social media.

”Surgery was a success,” he added. “But the damage was a bit more complicated than expected. It will delay my recovery a little bit, but doctors and I are optimistic I may be able to fight by August.”

A former title challenger under the Bellator banner, Freire is coming off wins over Josh Thomson, Ben Henderson, Derek Campos, Roger Huerta and Scope.
