The rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor continues to grow uglier.
In a series of social media posts made over the past several days, the feud between the UFC lightweight champion and McGregor has escalated to a disconcerting degree, with McGregor hurling controversial remarks at Nurmagomedov’s family and Nurmagomedov, in turn, attacking McGregor over recent reports of the Irishman being under investigation for sexual assault allegation in Ireland.
Things started out standard enough, with McGregor responding to an Instagram post on March 30 that commemorated Nurmagomedov’s 2018 victory over Al Iaquinta at UFC 223, which won the undefeated Dagestani fighter the UFC lightweight title.
You got your money took and your brothers eye socket shook when you fought me you little rat.

Viva Las Vegas baby the gaf always wins.
Big stomper party in the Wynn coming soon! @ProperWhiskey @WynnLasVegas #ad https://t.co/oN0KBCm7N3
Just hours later, Nurmagomedov responded to McGregor.
@TheNotoriousMMA money comes and goes, the honor that you lost that evening will never return, live with it.

Finish career in mma, but start career on twitter? #twitterWarrior
The back-and-forth settled there for a few days, until McGregor reignited it on Tuesday night with a series of personal insults hurled at Nurmagomedov and his family, two of which were subsequently deleted but can be seen below (H/T MiddleEasy).
Don’t be scared of the rematch you little scurrying rat.

You will do what you are told like you always do.

The controversial nature of McGregor’s comments set off Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, but McGregor ultimately continued his tirade Wednesday morning by referencing the recent lifetime ban of UFC heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov by USADA.
Talking shit, this guy is insulting someone’s wife and making fun of her religion and belief. He doesn’t realize he’s insulting 1.5 billon Muslims. Religion and family is a no no. You’re fucked Connor, let’s see what the media is going to say now. He’s a rapist, and a bitch.
— Ali Abdelaziz (@AliAbdelaziz00) April 3, 2019
Wow another dagestani caught abusing steroids.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 3, 2019
That’s 2 out of 3 in this picture busted for steroid abuse, with the most recent being busted 3 times in a row and now hit with a lifetime ban.
Excellent job @JeffNovitzkyUFC.
The only vice that cannot be forgiven is hypocrisy. pic.twitter.com/Lc9Ke0b8dp
Just hours later, Nurmagomedov responded again — and this time he didn’t pull any punches. Nurmagomedov referred to McGregor as a “rapist” and posted a leaked photo of McGregor and 26-year-old Terri Murray, who has claimed to Irish news outlets that McGregor is the father of her child stemming from an alleged 2017 interaction.
Rapist, you are Rapist.
— khabib nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) April 3, 2019
You are a hypocrite who is not responsible for your actions. Justice will find you.

That final salvo led UFC president Dana White to issue a statement to Yahoo’s Kevin Iole explaining that “the ongoing situation has escalated to a level that is unacceptable” and stating that the UFC is “taking the necessary steps to reach out to both athlete camps and this situation is being addressed by all parties internally.”

UPDATE: McGregor has responded.
Plot twist: It’s a goat under that towel
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 3, 2019
UPDATE: Khabib has responded.
@TheNotoriousMMA If you think that insulting entire religion you be safe, you are mistaken.
— khabib nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) April 3, 2019
You sent this exact threat to my coach in 2016 also. I remember it well.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 4, 2019
Before you and your team attacked my teammate alone in a Brooklyn hotel. Remember where this all began.
God sees all.
