Garry Tonon will compete again less than seven weeks after a quick victory in Japan, and this time he will be doing it as a featherweight.
“The Lion Killer”, who finished Anthony Engelen by TKO in a lightweight contest at ONE’s debut in Tokyo in March, is now scheduled to face Yoshiki Nakahara at an upcoming card in Singapore on May 17, the company announced Monday.
Tonon (4-0) started his career at welterweight before moving down to lightweight for his last two fights. ONE’s weight cutting system that doesn’t allow dehydration, so welterweights are 185 pounds, lightweights are 170 pounds, and featherweights compete at 155 pounds.
Nakahara (13-4) won eight straight since 2015, capped off by his third-round finish over Emilio Urrutia in his ONE Championship debut in February.
During a recent appearance in The MMA Hour studio, Tonon discussed his transition from jiu-jitsu to mixed martial arts, why he would go down in weight for his next bout, his desire to fight Kron Gracie, and more.
ONE: Enter the Dragon will be headlined by a previously announced title bout between Shinya Aoki and Christian Lee, and also feature the debut of UFC veteran Sage Northcutt versus Cosmo Alexandre at welterweight.
