This is the UFC St. Petersburg live blog for Roxanne Modafferi vs. Antonina Shevchenko, a flyweight bout at Saturday’s UFC event at the Yubileyny Sports Palace in Russia.

Modafferi, a veteran of Season 17 and 26 of The Ultimate Fighter, is looking to get back into the win column after coming up short against Sijara Eubanks in November. Shevchenko, sister of reigning flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, is coming off a dominant decision win in her UFC debut over Ji Yeon Kim in November.

Round 1

Modafferi is sticking to the outside early as Shevchenko stalks her from the center of the canvas. Modafferi blitzes forward but catches a one-two to the face. Shevchenko circling away with her back to the Octagon as Modafferi gives chase. Modafferi is looking for an opening but Shevchenko continues to catch her with counter combinations.

Shevchenko scores with a left high kick but Modafferi eats it and rushes forward with a flurry of punches. Remaining calm, Shevchenko connects with a counter straight left. Shevchenko finds a home for another high kick but can’t slow down Modafferi, who clinches up against the fence. Modafferi secures the takedown and looks to step over as she grinds her opponent into the canvas. Climbing back to her feet, Shevchenko looks to separate but is immediately dropped back down. Modafferi secure full mount and connects with a handful of short elbows as the opening frame comes to a close.

Round 2

Shevchenko opens up the second round with a lead side kick. Modafferi sprints forward and narrowly misses a spinning back fist as she runs her opponent down. Shevchenko finding a home for a one-two combination to the nose but eats a left punch, giving Modafferi an opening to clinch up against the fence. Modafferi secures takedown and immediately goes to work in half-guard.

Working off her back, Shevchenko threats with a triangle from the bottom but can’t prevent Modafferi from securing side control. With 10 seconds left Modafferi continues to work from top position as the clock ticks away to the end of the round.

Round 3

Shevchenko opens up strong as she uncorks a barrage of murderous kicks. Walking her opponent down, Shevchenko eats away at Modafferi with a punches and kicks. Biting down on her mouthpiece, Modafferi catches a kick and drags Shevchenko back to the canvas. Working from back control, Modafferi looks to roll but Shevchenko reverses and secures top control. Working for Modafferi’s guard Shevchenko finds herself unable to transition to a better position. Modafferi reverses and secure full mount and looks to lands a series of short elbows. Shevcnenko reverses and makes her way back to her feet!

Modafferi refuses to give Shevchenko room to breath as she immediately shoves her opponent back into the fence. With 60 seconds left, Shevchenko looks for knee against but can’t shake free of Modafferi as she’s dropped down to the canvas with 10-seconds left.
