UFC 236 results: Dwight Grant edges out Alan Jouban for split nod

Dwight Grant sees his hand raised at UFC 236 on Saturday in Atlanta

It wasn’t the most exciting performance, but Dwight Grant is now on a UFC winning streak.

Grant (10-2) went three rounds with welterweight veteran Alan Jouban at UFC 236 on Saturday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta and he did just enough to earn a pair of 29-28 scores and a split nod over Jouban (16-7). The other judge saw the fight 30-27 in Jouban’s favor.

In a bout that was difficult to score, Jouban and Grant danced around the Octagon for three rounds with neither man willing to commit to their offense. It was Jouban who took the lead, constantly pressing forward while remaining weary of the unorthodox Grant. Grant responded by focusing on countering. He occasionally caught Jouban with solid looping punches to the jaw, but those moments were few and far between and it wasn’t enough to deter Jouban’s strategy.

At the same time, Grant’s wild strikes rarely found pay dirt and Jouban at least looked like the fighter who was pressing the action, even if his volume was low. “Brahma” finished the fight strong, taking Grant down at the end of round three and landing some punches on the ground with less than 30 seconds to go.

As it turns out, Jouban needed a finish and he ended up losing his third fight in four appearances. Meanwhile, Grant, a Contender Series contract winner, has now won two straight and nine of his last 10.
