This is the UFC 236 live blog for Alan Jouban vs. Dwight Grant, a welterweight bout at Saturday’s UFC event at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Jouban, who is coming off of a second-round KO of Ben Saunders last February, faces Grant, a Contender Series contract winner who is 1-1 in the UFC so far, on the main card.

Check out the UFC 236 live blog below.

Round 1: A tentative first 30 seconds as Jouban comes forward and Grant maintains distance. Jouban gets a takedown briefly Grant is back up, though he eats a left hand for his troubles. Grant lands his own left that momentarily stuns Jouban, perhaps knocking off some of the rust - he’s been out for over a year after all. Back to the center of the cage with Jouban coming forward. grant is swinging hard but coming up with very little. A good flurry from Jouban gets an “Oooh” from the crowd. A lot of small flurries but nothing significant is landing and with a minute left, the round is up for grabs. Jouban lands a straight left that gets through. Grant works the legs lightly. The round ends without either fighter making a clear statement.

MMAFighting scores the round 10-9 Jouban.

Round 2: Grant comes out looking much more intense. He throws a number of kicks and appearss to stun Jouban with a big punch. The veteran shakes it off and gets back to the center. Grant is throwing with bad intent but Jouban appears to be doing a good job of slowing the momentum down and not letting Grant get comfortable. Grant has been working the legs a lot and it appears it might be slowing Jouban’s movement now. He’s certainly having a harder time closing the distance. The boo birds start to come out as Jouban is unable to get anything going and Grant is on his bike, pot-shotting. The momentum from the Nikita Krylov submission is gone and the crowd is getting restless as Jouban fails a half-hearted single leg attempt. The boos are getting extremely loud and that should tell you all you need to know about this round.

MMAFighting score the round 10-9 for Grant.

Round 3: No one has made a statement so it’s anybody’s fight heading into the third. Both fighters come out with renewed energy but it doesn’t result in much action, just more vigorous feinting. As has been the case the whole fight, Jouban is advancing and grant is circling away. Grant lands a good uppercut but his corner has to be wondering about the judges. Grant has landed the better punches but he’s been in full retreat the whole fight and the crowd is livid, which could influence the judge’s scores. Grant lands another uppercut. Jouban just doesn’t have the footwork to track Grant down for more than a moment. Jouban finally does land a blow, a kick below the belt. The crowd boos Grant but then changes their mind after seeing the replay. Jouban basically punts him there. The fight resumes and what do you know, Jouban is coming with real urgency now. It’s not really helping though, he still can’t track Grant down. He is able to land a few glancing hooks though. Maybe that’s enough for the judges because at this point, Grant is breaking worlds either. Whoever wins, the crowd is gonna let them have it. Jouban gets a takedown and back mount with 15 seconds left! He throws everything he has and that’s enough to steal the round, and possibly the fight.

MMAFighting scores the round 10-9 Jouban and overall 29-28 for Jouban.

Official result: Dwight Grant wins by split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28).
