Eric Wisely is back to the UFC.
Seven years after making his last walk to the Octagon, Wisely will return to the eight-sided cage to battle Gilbert Burns at UFC Fort Lauderdale on April 27, multiple sources told MMA Fighting. Combate first reported the news.
Wisely (33-9-1) went 11-0-1 with seven stoppages since 2015, capped off by a second-round TKO earlier this month in Iowa. Wisely fought twice under the UFC banner in 2012, losing via submission (calf slicer) to Charles Oliveira and a decision to Jason Young.
Burns (14-3), who recently tapped Gleison Tibau in a combat jiu-jitsu match, last fought in the UFC in December, defeating Olivier Aubin-Mercier via decision. “Durinho” won three out of his last four in the UFC, including knockouts over Jason Saggo and Dan Moret.
UFC’s return to Florida will be headlined by a rematch between middleweights Yoel Romero and Ronaldo Souza. The event takes place at the BB&T Center arena and airs on ESPN.
