When Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, he won more than just the UFC heavyweight title, he also won a date with Brock Lesnar at some unknown time in the future. And it’s a date Cormier still has his sights set on.

The Cormier-Lesnar fight started being promoted immediately after Cormier won the title, with Lesnar being brought in for an interview where he shoved Cormier across the cage. The fight looked inevitable for early this year before Cormier’s planned retirement at 40, with Lesnar re-entering the USADA testing pool. However, Lesnar ended up extending his contract with the WWE that has thrown his MMA future up in the air. That ended up working out for Cormier though, who pushed back his planned retirement to heal up from some injuries, and now says he’s still planning on beating Lesnar as soon as he’s done with the WWE.

“I don’t have a fight exactly scheduled yet but I got my eyes on Brock Lesnar,” Cormier told ESPN’s SportsCenter on Saturday after commentating UFC Nashville. “I may go to the WWE’s WrestleMania and I may go cost him his title over there so he can hurry up and get to the UFC so I can beat him here.”

Lesnar’s contract with the WWE only extends through their Wrestlemania event this year and, if reports are true, Lesnar could be UFC bound shortly afterwards. Dana White is certainly hopeful that is the case as he told Megan Olivi last week.

“I think both guys really want it,” White said. “Cormier wants it bad. I know Cormier wants it bad, and Brock wants it bad. So, when two fighters want to fight each other as bad as these two do, I think it’s going to happen.

“Brock Lesnar is doing his thing with WWE. One of the things about Brock Lesnar is, when that guy is ready to fight, he is not shy. He will call me and he will let me know. To be honest with you, I’m hoping to hear from that guy this summer.”

Wrestlemania takes place on April 7th. Perhaps we’ll see Daniel Cormier make an appearance afterwards like Brock did to him at UFC 226. If not, there is no shortage of viable contenders for Cormier to defend his belt against instead.

Not gonna lie to y’all, UFC Nashville was a pretty horrendous card until Anthony Pettis saved it. Gotta love showtime. Also if you haven’t seen it, I highly encourage you to go listen to Bryce Mitchell’s scrum. He is hilarious. For instance:
