Anne Ribeiro entered a cage for her amateur MMA debut Saturday night with big expectations, but things didn’t go her way.
The daughter of longtime UFC and Strikeforce veteran Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva took on Hannah Jackson in her first amateur bout at XFN 23 in South Florida, but judges scored the close contest in favor of her opponent, awarding Jackson a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
Jackson, 22, improved to 2-2 as an amateur fighter, bouncing back from a decision loss to Bellator prospect Valerie Loureda last September. Ribeiro, 19, now stands 0-1 as an amateur following the 130-pound catchweight clash.
“We got the debut done, it was fun,” Ribeiro reacted on social media. “I got to go out there and throw it out. I didn’t get the result I wanted to get, you know, but just shows I can’t leave it to the hand of the judges. It’s cool. I’ll be back in the gym this week. healing the face up a little bit and we’re back to the grind. let’s get it.”
On his Instagram page, “Bigfoot” protested the decision.
“Bullshit decision XFN, Anne won the firsts and second round clearly,” Silva wrote. “Losing or winning is part of life, but when we’re clearly robbed it’s an outrage. Not because she’s my daughter, but she clearly won the first and second rounds. But it’s back to the gym to train more and don’t let it go to these incompetent judges.”
