‘Pitbull’ brothers sign multi-fight extensions with Bellator

The “Pitbull” brothers are sticking around in Bellator.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bellator officials announced it had reached an exclusive, multi-fight fight extensions with Patricio and Patricky Freire.

Patricio (28-4), the promotion’s reigning featherweight champion, first broke into the promotion at Bellator 15 in April 2010. The younger “Pitbull” brother currently holds the record for most wins (16) and finishes (10) in Bellator history. During this run of dominance, fans saw Patricio win Bellator’s Season Two and Season Nine featherweight tournaments while also winning their featherweight title on two separate occasions. He also holds notable wins over former champions Pat Curran and Daniel Straus (2x) as well as Henry Corrales, Daniel Weichel (2x) and Wilson Reis.

Patricio is currently slated to challenge lightweight champion Michael Chandler at Bellator 221 in May.

His older brother, Patricky (21-8), who made his promotional debut at Bellator 26 in May 2011, currently holds the record for most knockout wins in Bellator history (10). In hist most recent outing, Patricky extended his win streak to five straight with a split decision win over Ryan Scope at Bellator Newcastle in February. While he was expected to challenge for the lightweight title next, he stepped aside to allow his younger brother challenge for his second title.

Patricky also holds notable victories over former UFC champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson, as well as Roger Huerta, Saad Awad and Ryan Couture.
