Four of Brazil’s best were rewarded for their thrilling finishes on Saturday.
Two-time UFC champion Jose Aldo received a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his second-round TKO of featherweight contender Renato Moicano, and Marlon Moraes was also rewarded for his first-round submission of Raphael Assuncao in the bantamweight main event of UFC Fortaleza.
This was Aldo’s second straight win after defeating Jeremy Stephens last July, a result that also earned him a performance bonus. Meanwhile, Moraes collected his third consecutive bonus check in addition to avenging a June 2017 split decision loss to Assuncao.
In lieu of a Fight of the Night award, two more Performance of the Night bonuses were given out to Charles Oliveira and Johnny Walker.
“Do Bronx” picked up his 13th submission win in the UFC with a second-round anaconda choke finish of David Teymur. That further boosted Oliveira’s company record for submission victories. He also moved into fourth place on the all-time UFC fight night bonuses list with 14, trailing only Joe Lauzon and Nate Diaz (15), and Donald Cerrone (16).
A fast-rising light heavyweight prospect, Walker improved to 2-0 inside the Octagon with his second straight knockout victory. On this occasion, he needed just 15 seconds to connect with a scintillating combination of strikes that put away Justin Ledet.
